Calla Lillies From Dave

The best part about flowers from Dave is photographing them so that I can enjoy their beauty each and every day... not just for a week! It's my way of capturing them for a lifetime...

A Trip to Dallas

Last weekend Dave and I made a trip down to Dallas with some friends of our that we go to church with. Dallas is only about 4.5 hours from were we live. We have been planning the trip for quit some time, but a few days before hand I came down with a terriable cold. I felt pretty miserable the whole trip but I survived (thanks to lots of cold medicine)!

The main purpose of the trip was to watch our prized BYU play TCU. The game was a complete disappointment to say the least! Our number 9 ranked BYU was virtually crushed by 25th ranked TCU. We ended up leaving the game with 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter because we couldn't bear watching it anymore. One of our friends even made the statement that he was getting sick to his stomach watch the disaster. The next day I received a call from my Dad who informed me that I wasn't allowed to watch BYU play live anymore!

Day 2 was spent by going to the Fort Worth Zoo, and of course, all little bit of shopping. We really enjoyed the zoo, it is definitely one of the better zoo's I have been to. Day 3 was a trip to Six Flags. We were both very excited about this particular part of the vacation! We arrived shortly after the park opened and stayed till close. With the 12 hours we were at the park, we only got on 7 rides. So what were we doing the rest of the time? Well, waiting in line! We thought that by going in the middle of October the lines wouldn't be so bad- but we were wrong. We asked one of the park attendance if it is normally this bad and she informed us that she had never seen it that busy. Each ride took an average of about 2 hours to get through the line.
To say the least it was nice to go on vacation, but everything pretty much turned out to be a complete disappointment. Hopefully we will have better luck next time.

Medical Update

As most of you know, I have a long history of medical issues. I have reached a point in my life where I am ready to be healthy, ready to start my family... To obtain either of these goals, it will take a significant amount of trust in my doctors and my Heavenly Father. I have been working toward finding answers as to what is causing a series of medical issues that I struggle with on a daily basis. This has required gathering medical records from the past 12 years of my life and finding a doctors who might possible have an answer.
I have been waiting for my appointments for the past 2 months and they finally arrived last week. Since that day I have undergone a series of tests such as a cystoscopy and CT scan, which have ruled out several possibilities and narrowed the cause and affect. I was informed last Wednesday that my Doctor, who has been practicing for some 35 years, has never seen a case like mine (not typically the words you want to hear from your doctor). He has referred me to another Doctor and assured me, "if there is an answer or a solution this doctor will know". Unfortunately, this transfer of doctors results in another 2 month waiting period. The soonest I will be able to see this new doctor is December 12. He is apparently the best in the state and one of the best in the entire country. I have been working with a great hospital which is a university medical research hospital. I know that they are up to date on technology and that they have a vast network of experienced doctors.
I tell you this, not for pity, but to ask for your prayers over the next coming months. I know that through the Lord all things are possible. He has carried my burdens and lifted my sorrows. I thank you for the concern and compassion that many of you have already shown. I thank my husband for his continued support and love. In this situation, I am well aware that I cannot do this on my own. Please keep us in your prayers...

Wild Horses

On another one of our walks (yes, we take a lot of walks) last week we came across a very peculiar site. In a field very close to where we live we saw 10 horses grazing in the pasture. Now that may not sound odd, but these 10 horses were not fenced in and were roaming freely. The site was very picturesque and we thought it would be interesting to see how our dogs would react to the horses.
Tucker, the Border Collie, wanted absolutely nothing to do with them. On the other hand, Sadie, the German Shephard, was completely enthralled by them. For the most part, Sadie is very active (you could call it ADD for dogs), with that being said, she is also extremely intelligent. Being with those horses came almost as if it was second nature to her. She became very calm and cautiously went to greet several of the horses. At one point, she even laid down for several minutes amongst them. The horses seemed to enjoy her as well.

The only problem arose when Sadie became insistent in smelling the horses behinds. If you know dogs, you are well aware that this is how they get to know each other. This method is not as advantageous with horses. We kept telling her "No, No". Then she became a little overly confident with them and wanted to play. This, of course, spooked one of the horses and in a turn for the worst, Sadie jumped back as the horse quickly turned its body and kicked its hind legs right into her mouth. She, luckily, reacted very quickly thus decrease the damage. We felt terrible! She had blood in her mouth from a small cut on her lip, but she seemed okay. After that incident she was certainly less interested in them.

A lady pulled up a few minutes later and informed us she knew who the horses belonged to and had been trying to get a hold of them. We stayed for a good hour trying to keep the horses from going into the street. Sadie kept wanting to go over to the same horse that kicked her, as if she wanted to make a manse with it or something. Anyways, I thought everyone might enjoy seeing the pictures. They were beautiful horses and 3 of them were even pregnant. I would also like to report that they have returned safely to where they belong.

80 lb. Golden Retriever VS. 220 lb. Dave...

And who wins.... well, you will just have to read to find out!

A golden retriever is known for it's gentle personality and is considered a seemingly harmless dog... or so we thought. A few weeks ago Dave and I were taking the dogs for a walk and had traveled about 2 miles away from home. Now because we live in Arkansas we frequently have other dogs which join us in our walk beside the two that belong to us. Why you ask... well because people in Arkansas don't really believe in fences! So these fenceless dogs either greet our dogs and join us in out walk or come charging at us ready to attack us and our dogs (we prefer the first scenario). On this particular day it was a sweet Golden Retriever who decided to join us.
As we were walking, this Golden Retriever suddenly ran over to a construction site where they were building a new home. I watched as he rolled on his back and swung back and forth for a good minute. I thought it seemed slightly strange, but when he finished he ran back to finish his walk with us. When he returned, I smelled a extremely foul odor from him and noticed he was very wet. At this point, I glanced back at where he was wallowing and noticed that there was a port-a-potty right next to it. Yes, this lovely Golden Retriever was not so lovely anymore as he was covered in human feces!
Our plan of attack was to sick Sadie, our German Sherphard, after him to chase him away so he would not hang around us anymore. We got Sadie, pointed toward the Golden Retriever, and told her to go get it. Now if you have ever met Sadie, you are well aware of just how fast she is... She bolted at this dog and the Golden Retriever took off running with it's tail tucked as far between it's legs as it could get it.
What happened next is really indescribable and surly not as funny as witnessing it first hand. That Golden Retriever then suddenly took a quick turn and was headed right back in our direction (mostly toward Dave). Dave assumed he was coming toward him to seek protection and was going to stop, but he was soarly mistaken! This 80 lb. Golden Retriever plowed into my 220 lb. Husband like he had been hit by a car. His legs flew up into the air and were well above were his head was located. He landed smack down on his chest followed by a few painful screams. I knew he was hurt by the sounds he was making but I have to admit I was struggling holding back the laughs from what I had just witnessed!
To make matters worse this dog knew that Dave was hurt and that the dog was in big trouble, so what did he do... the feces covered, rank smelling dog, laid down next to my husband to make sure he was okay. In the mean time Sadie paced around Dave trying to get the other Dog away from him as Dave yelled in anger "get the dog away, get the dog away"! I am frantically trying to get this dog up and away from my husband without touching him. Finally I had success and yelled at it to go home and it quickly ran off. At this point Dave was still not moving and laying with his face and chest on the asphalt.
I then asked "do you think you broke anything?" His response was that he had sever pain protruding from his Femur. My thought was there is no way he broke his femur, it's the hardest bone to break in your body. I have to admit I was still holding back chuckles of laughter that kept coming out without thought. I asked him if he could stand up, his response, "I don't know". At this point I was thinking "great, I am 2 miles away from home and I am going to have to run back home, get the car, pick him up and take him to the ER. Luckily, after laying there for a good 5 minutes I helped him stand and he hobbled home in pain. Not to mention that as he stood up there was several large wet spots on he jeans were this feces covered dog ran into him. So as we made are very, very slow walk home we had the lovely aroma of port-a-potty remnants to remain with us.
Dave hobbled for several days following the accident and he had a large contusion about the diameter of a tennis ball on his thigh. It is still very tender to the touch. And as for me, I still break out in laughter every time I envision this 80 lb. Golden Retriever hurled my 220 lb. husband in the air like he was some kind of rag doll. I think I would have to say the Golden Retriever won and I wish I had my camera there with me so I could truly give you all an accurate visual!
