Happy Birthday Dave!!!!!!

It's Dave's Birthday and so I thought everyone might enjoy a few pictures from his past (unfortunately, I only have one picture of him as a youngster). He was born in Ontario, Oregon long, long ago! He has lived in Oregon, Idaho, Kentucky, Washington, Ecuador, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona (we will soon be able to add another location to that list).

One of my favorite stories of Dave as a kid was when he was about 3 or 4 years old and they lived in Kentucky out on a farm. There was a rooster on that farm the consistently attacked and chased Dave. He was not very fond of that rooster to say the least. One day he decided he was going to show that rooster who was boss. He woke up early that morning, got dressed, and found his favorite cowboy boots. He slipped his feet into the boots and went outside. Of course, the rooster began to charge him. He looked that rooster straight in the eye lifted his leg and kicked that rooster as hard as he could with his little cowboy boots on. The rooster never bothered him again!!!

Dave and I had been dating for a while when I decided to ask him why he had a scar on his face. He told me that one night he got into a knife fight with a gang. I wasn't too believing so I asked again. He went on to tell me two other crazy stories! When I finally met one of his good friends from high school I was very excited to ask him what happened. It was to my surprise when he gave me the same three stories that Dave had previously told me. I eventually got to the bottom of it about 4 months after we had started dating (a little kitten was startled and crawled up his face).

While Dave was working in as Las Vegas for his internship with Pulte Homes, he was out walking one of the job sites when he saw a few of the Hispanic workers not roped in (this is required for the work that they were preforming). He yelled out to them in Spanish "put your ropes on". They all gave him a look of confusion and continued to work. He yelled out in Spanish again, "don't be stupid, I know you can understand me, put your ropes on". Later that day he was walking down the sidewalk when he realized why they were confused. The Spanish word for clothes is "ropa". Instead of telling them to put on their ropes he had been telling them to put on their clothes.

We want to celebrate his birthday with you, even though we are far away. To help make his birthday spectacular, please leave comments and birthday greetings on our blog. I know you all have some entertaining stories and memories of him to share. You can also check out and try this week's featured recipes- these are all some of Dave's favorites.

Happy Birthday Dave!!!!!!!!

We Thank Thee, Oh God, For A Prophet

Our beloved Prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley, has died at 97.

As described in an article in the LDS Newsroom, "President Hinckley was known, even at the age of 97, as a tireless leader who always put in a full day at the office and traveled extensively around the world to mix with Church members, now numbering 13 million in 171 nations.

His quick wit and humor, combined with an eloquent style at the pulpit, made him one of the most loved of modern Church leaders. A profoundly spiritual man, he had a great fondness for history and often peppered his sermons with stories from the Church’s pioneer past."

He has certainly touched our lives countless times, and so we thought it was only necessary to honor him today on our blog. I will never forget as I stood in General Conference in October of 2006 at the close of the meeting, as we sang "We Thank Thee, Oh God, for a Prophet". The entire congregation was brought to their feet and not a dry eye was left in the room. I have never felt the spirit so strong as we sang with praise to our dear Prophet. My testimony was certainly strengthened from such an experience. I loved his humor and witty comments, his passion for the church, and his love for all. Imagine a gospel without modern day revelation and a Prophet to lead and guide. This life would be much more challenging! How grateful I am to have a Prophet.

The following are the lyrics to "We Thank Thee, Oh God, for a Prophet"

We thank thee, O God, for a prophet
To guide us in these latter days.
We thank thee for sending the gospel
To lighten our minds with its rays.
We thank thee for every blessing
Bestowed by thy bounteous hand.
We feel it a pleasure to serve thee
And love to obey thy command.

When dark clouds of trouble hang o’er us
And threaten our peace to destroy,
There is hope smiling brightly before us,
And we know that deliv’rance is nigh.
We doubt not the Lord nor his goodness.
We’ve proved him in days that are past.
The wicked who fight against Zion
Will surely be smitten at last.

We’ll sing of his goodness and mercy.
We’ll praise him by day and by night,
Rejoice in his glorious gospel,
And bask in its life-giving light.
Thus on to eternal perfection
The honest and faithful will go,
While they who reject this glad message
Shall never such happiness know.

Lyrics: William Fowler, 1830–1865

His life was a true testament of service, and he had an abiding love for others," said U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican and fellow Mormon. "His wit, wisdom, and exemplary leadership will be missed by not only members of our faith, but by people of all faiths throughout the world." (taken from MSNBC)

"Extra, Extra, Read All About It"

That's right folks... its official, we are moving to Arkansas!!!! This picture was our effort to see how well we would fit in over there. How'd we do? Dave recently found out that his company, VCC, would be transferring us down to Arkansas. We are expecting the big move sometime in the middle of February. Luckily, the day we received that news, we also received two offers on our home in Utah, one of which we accepted. I guess the Lord always has His plan, even if you don't always understand or recognize it!

Although we (really just me) are a little nervous, we are also very excited about our future there and the opportunities it will bring us. The more people we talk to, the more we hear how much we are going to love it down there. The whole tornado thing just about frightens the heck out of me, but Dave has assured me he is not moving us to a trailer park, so I suppose I will be okay! My cousin informed me that the mosquitoes are no worse in Arkansas than in Syracuse (where we just moved from). So now if we can survive the humidity, I guess we will be doing good! We are excited about the possibility of owning some property so that our dogs have a place to romp and play, and hopefully wear-out our overly active German Shepherd. And I think it would be fun to pick up a "sweet southern accent". Dave is excited about painting his little red truck a more trendy camouflage green and driving around town with his coon skin cap on (Ha Ha). We have tried to included a little taste of Arkansas to our blog, so please sit back and enjoy some tunes, information about Arkansas, recipes from the south, and a few redneck jokes! And don't feel bad if you have to look at a map to figure out where Arkansas is... I did too!

P.S. To Truly get the right effect, please make sure your music is turned on (and don't miss the "Residency Application" under the Arkansas section)!
